fwiw i've been to omorisanno twice, once for a sinus thing and once just to grab the tea for a friend. the checkup's fine but the real weird part is the elevator music. it's not music, it's like a low hum that syncs with your breathing somehow. first time i noticed i was matching it without thinking, felt like i'd been there for hours when it was maybe 4 minutes. also the nurses don't knock before entering, they just slide in with this little bow, which is normal here but the timing's always perfect, like they're waiting outside for you to finish whatever thought you're having. if you want the full experience, go on a weekday morning and bring cash, the card reader by the pharmacy has a 15 minute queue but the cashier line moves fast. and skip the gift shop, the only thing worth buying is the hand cream, smells like the waiting room but in a good way.
I've lived in Omori for six years and the hospital's weirdness is real, but it's also very Tokyo. The "knowing things" thing is just their patient records system, it's freakishly fast because they've got your history from every clinic in the ward on file. My actual tip is to grab lunch at the curry shop on the south side of the hospital, it's a tiny place called Katsuya that's been there since the 80s and the owner remembers everyone's usual order, including mine, which is spookier than anything in the hospital. If you're doing the checkup, the blood draw room has a window that looks out at the train tracks, and the nurse will time your draw to the passing train so you don't flinch. That's not a rumor, I've seen it happen twice.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping
kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.
tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
