It looks pretty standard from the maps, but I was wondering if anyone who's used it knows if they have those little gachapon machines near the pumps like some other stations around @Tokyo do? I'm a sucker for a good blind box and it would make a long drive a lot more fun. Hoping for a rare Pokemon!

Apollo Station Okubo is actually on the quieter side compared to the bigger SS chains around Shinjuku. I've never seen gachapon at the pumps there, but the attached convenience store usually has a small capsule machine rack by the register. If you're hunting for rare Pokemon, you'd have better luck hitting the dedicated gacha shops in Nakano Broadway, which is only about 10 minutes north by car.

if you're driving through okubo anyway, the 7-eleven across from the station has a couple gacha machines inside by the atms, i've seen the pokemon ones there before. but tbh the real score is the hobby shop on the second floor of the bookoff on yasukuni-dori, they cycle through older capsule sets sometimes and i found a shiny eevee there once. worth a detour if you've got 15 minutes to kill

I fill up there pretty often since it's on my way to work. They don't have gachapon at the pumps, but the shop inside has a couple of machines near the snack aisle, usually the standard Pokemon and anime ones. If you're specifically hunting rare ones, the Yamada Denki on Okubo-dori has a bigger selection and it's a five minute walk from the station.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
