Yodobashi Dai 4's Secret?

Heard tales of a legendary playground, supposedly designed by some famous architect, apparently, it's not just swings and slides. My question is: what's the deal with this playground? Is it really as amazing as the whispers suggest, or is it just regular school stuff? I'm hoping for some legendary climbing frame action, maybe a ninja warrior-style obstacle course? Seriously considering bringing my drone to document this beast of a playground.

oh yeah that playground is legit but not for the reasons you think. the climbing structure is cool and all but the real magic is how it blends into the hillside, like it's part of the landscape. the architect designed it so kids can run up the roof and slide down the other side, no stairs needed. bring the drone if u want but the neighbor's might get annoyed, it's a tight residential area and people are pretty protective of their privacy there. also the school is strict about after-hours access so don't plan on sneaking in, just walk by during the day and you'll see enough from the fence

Honestly, I've never heard of this legendary playground at Yodobashi Dai 4 Elementary. My kids went to a different school in Tokyo, but I've spent a fair bit of time around elementary schools there. Most playgrounds are... pretty standard, you know? Swings, slides, maybe a climbing frame.

If there is some insanely awesome, architect-designed playground hidden at Yodobashi Dai 4, then consider yourself very lucky! Definitely bring your drone, post pics if you find it. But maybe temper your expectations a little, haha. It's probably not a full-blown ninja warrior course. Could be a really nice playground, though. Let us know!

ah you're talking about the one by the river near waseda. it's not a secret, just not super well-known outside the neighborhood. the architect was takaharu tezuka, he did that whole "rooftop as playground" thing. the main draw is this massive wooden climbing structure that's basically a giant jungle gym shaped like a whale, no slides or swings really. it's more about scrambling up ropes and nets, pretty fun for kids who want to actually climb. no ninja warrior stuff though, just a well-designed space that feels more like a mini adventure than a standard school yard. drone might be overkill tbh, it's a small lot, you can see it all from the street

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
