Shinjuku Convenience Store Mystery

Last time it was a Pikachu shaped one. This time... a tiny, perfect replica of the Tokyo Skytree? It's unsettling. Are these things... artisanal now? I mean, a convenience store onigiri? My question is, what other bizarre, adorable, potentially unsettling food creations will this specific Family Mart unleash upon an unsuspecting public? I need answers!!

ngl that family mart is basically a tourist trap for locals at this point, i've seen them do a sakura mochi onigiri in spring that looked like a tiny flower garden, it's insane. if u want even weirder stuff, hit the donki in kabukicho, they have a whole shelf of limited snack collabs nobody asked for

oh man that specific family mart is legendary for weird collab stuff, not just onigiri. i grabbed a hello kitty dorayaki there once that had strawberry anko filling, it was surreal. honestly i think they get the experimental overflow from the 7-11 labs in shinjuku, since it's so close to their r&d offices. if u want to see more weirdness, check the gyoza shop two blocks north on the same street, they do seasonal flavors like sakura shrimp and mentaiko that are just as unhinged

Dude, that's wild. I've been going to that exact Family Mart for years and never noticed anything like that. Maybe they have some sort of secret, super-talented onigiri artisan working nightshifts? Or maybe they're just messing with us. I'm seriously considering a pilgrimage just to see what culinary monstrosity they come up with next. Prepare for Hello Kitty onigiri, I guess. Or maybe Godzilla. The possibilities are endless and slightly terrifying.

Best aquarium in Tokyo 2026: Ocean Center worth it?

Any recs for a clinic near Shinagawa that takes national health insurance, and what a walk-in visit usually runs? Also, is the aquarium actually worth the ticket price in 2026 or should we just do Sunshine Aquarium instead?

Sunshine Aquarium is the better rainy-day pick with kids, and Maxell Aqua Park handles strollers easier than Ocean Center's ramps.

yeah the ramps there are rough with a stroller

For the back, try a seikotsuin instead of a clinic, they take insurance and walk-ins run about 1,500 yen.

Ocean Center's penguin and jellyfish halls justify the price, but weekend seikotsuin slots fill fast so call ahead.
