I swear, I've never seen anything like it. It had stuff you'd expect, drinks, snacks, but then it also had, like, incredibly niche Japanese candies I'd never seen before. And some bizarre limited-edition ramen flavor packs. I got some weird strawberry-wasabi thing I'm still slightly terrified to try. My question is: what's the deal with the vending machine at Apollo Station Okubo SS? It's insane. I mean, seriously, was that a limited run of space-themed Pocky?!

oh man, you found the legendary machine. that thing's been there for years, it's like the station owner's personal side hustle for importing stuff from random regional festivals. the space pocky was def a limited run, think it was a collab with some local astronaut museum thing near tokyo dome. strawberry wasabi is actually pretty tame for that machine, i once saw a yuzu-miso cup noodle in there that haunted my dreams

yeah that machine is lowkey famous in the neighborhood, the owner's uncle runs a wholesale import biz out in kawasaki so they get all the weird limited runs from conbini chains that don't normally distribute here. the strawberry-wasabi is actually decent if u let it sit for a sec, the heat fades quick. if u go back grab the matcha-sake kitkat before it sells out, those vanish in like a week

Tokyo rent 2026: what are you actually paying?

Is a decent 1LDK still around 120,000 yen in places like Setagaya or Nakano, or has it crept closer to 150,000? And which areas near good bakeries like Levain are still worth the commute?

I pay 128,000 for a 1LDK in Nakano, five minutes from the station, and I moved in last spring. Setagaya has crept up more because of the redevelopment around Futako-Tamagawa. For Levain bread, I'd look at Sasazuka or Daitabashi, one stop from Shinjuku, quieter, and you can walk to the bakery on weekends.

Worth checking the Nanpeidai side too, quiet but close.

Sangenjaya, 138,000 for a 1LDK.

138k tracks for that side of town, though the walk to Komazawa-dori is what really keeps those units priced where they are.
