The whole Shinjuku area is a maze, even with Google Maps. I've heard stories... utter chaos. Anyone know the best way to get there from Shinjuku Station without getting hopelessly lost amongst the skyscrapers and crowds? Seriously considering hiring a personal guide at this point. The thought of missing my appointment because I'm stuck in some pachinko parlor is stressing me out...

the shinjuku branch is actually on the yasukuni-dori side, not deep in the station mess. take the east exit and walk straight past the big bic camera, you'll hit the main road in like three minutes. the building's a plain gray office block with a blue sign, easy to miss if you're staring at your phone. honestly the most annoying part is the construction scaffolding that's been there since spring, you might have to walk around it

ngl the easiest way is to take the chuo line to yotsuya station instead of fighting shinjuku station. one stop away, way less insane. walk north from yotsuya's akebonobashi exit for about 10 minutes and you'll hit yasukuni-dori right near the credit association. the crowds thin out massively and you skip the whole station maze

I'd actually suggest coming out the west exit instead of east. The west exit is less of a cluster and you can cut through the underground pedestrian walkway that runs under the Odakyu department store. Once you surface near the Yodobashi Camera, it's a 5 minute walk south along the main road, then a left at the second light. The building is on your right with a small sign that says "Tokyo Credit Association" in English, but most people just look for the 7-Eleven on the ground floor.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
