I was checking out the amazing playground equipment at this elementary school, seriously, it's like a mini-amusement park! My little one, bless his heart, got distracted by a particularly bouncy squirrel and vanished faster than a dropped ice cream cone. Ran around like a headless chicken for ten minutes before I found him hiding behind a slide, giggling his head off. I'm still slightly traumatized though. Seriously considering investing in a child-tracking device. Anyway, is there a central lost and found office I should check? I think he might have dropped his favorite dinosaur.

I'd check with the nearest koban first, actually. The one near Sendagi Station on the Chiyoda Line is pretty good about logging lost toys, and they'll hold onto it for about three months before sending it to the central lost and found office in Bunkyo Ward. But also, those elementary school playgrounds in this area have a weird thing where small items fall through the gaps in the drainage covers near the sandbox. Might be worth a look under the slide's base too, I've found a few action figures wedged in there before.

honestly, the school office is your best bet. most elementary schools here have a little lost and found box near the entrance, usually by the shoe lockers. if it's not there, check the koban around the station -- they keep stuff for a while and have a surprisingly organized system for toys. hope the dino turns up, those things are hard to replace

yeah the school office is prob your best move, but fwiw some of these schools have a specific lost item box by the shoe lockers, usually near the genkan entrance. if it's not there, the koban near the station is pretty solid for toys, they hold onto stuff for like a month before sending it to the central lost and found. also check under the slide again, kids drop stuff in the dumbest spots and it just sits there for days

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
