Shinjuku Midnight Snack?
honestly the real move is hitting the Lawson on the other side of Shinjuku station near the east exit, it's like a 8 min walk but they stock the premium onigiri line with the nori wrapped separately so it stays crispy. the Family Mart near the park is fine but the onigiri there gets kinda sad and soggy by 2am because the turnover slows down. if u go to that Lawson before midnight they'll still have the mentaiko and the konbu variety which are way better than the standard tuna mayo
tbh the Family Mart near Shinjuku Gyoen is one of the better ones for late-night stuff because it's right by the park entrance on the main road, so they tend to restock more often than the smaller ones in the alleys. but honestly if you're serious about midnight onigiri, walk 5 mins north to the 7-Eleven on Yasukuni-dori near the post office -- that one has a proper hot food counter and they usually keep a wider variety of fillings out past midnight, like the spicy cod roe or the grilled salmon with butter. the Family Mart will do in a pinch but the 7-Eleven is where the real late-night magic happens

True, true. I figured it'd be a bit of a lottery. Salmon or tuna mayo it is then! door's usually shut daytime, they post the month's lineup on their site & the evening openings are still a thing, mostly fri/sat from 18:00
yeah the fri/sat thing holds but they've been skipping some months lately, last one i caught was early march. worth checking the site the week of, they post late sometimes. the window install usually goes up a few days before the opening
