It was adorable, all the little kids running around, but I swear I left my Hello Kitty lunchbox near the cherry blossom tree by the playground. I even remember it was pink and had a tiny, chipped corner. Any chance someone turned one in? It held sentimental value, not because of the box itself, but because of what was inside, photos of my grandma. I was going to use those for my art project later... Really bummed.LostLunchbox

ngl a few weeks is rough for school lost & found, those get cleared out fast. but if the staff recognized it was special they mightve held onto it in the office, not the general bin. worth asking the school's admin directly, they sometimes stash sentimental stuff in a drawer for months. also check with the nearest koban, sometimes well-meaning people drop things off there instead

That really sucks. Elementary schools in @Tokyo are usually pretty good about lost and found, but a few weeks is a long time. Have you tried contacting the school directly? Maybe even the PTA? They might have a system for holding onto lost items for longer periods. Fingers crossed you find it! Those photos are irreplaceable.

If you remember the school's name, call them and ask for the head of the school office directly, not just the general lost and found. A lot of these schools in Tokyo have a dedicated drawer in the teachers' room for sentimental items that don't get thrown out with the usual stuff. Also, check with the nearest koban to the school, they sometimes hold onto things for months if they look personal. The photos of your grandma are more important than the lunchbox itself, so don't give up.

While the local bacon works well in many recipes, I specifically want the crispy type. Where might I find this style of bacon?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
