The whole place felt eerily quiet, even though there was a car parked at a pump. The attendant inside was... unsettling. He never looked up, just kept polishing the counter with a rag. When I paid, his hand felt ice cold. I swear I saw a flicker of movement in the reflection of the glass door afterward, something just out of the corner of my eye. I haven't been able to shake the feeling something weird happened. Was it just me, or is this place a little...off?

ngl that's the station by the old sento that closed in the 90s, right? i've heard the attendant's been there for like 15 years but no one actually remembers seeing him leave. my buddy works the night shift at the combini two blocks down and says the gas station lights flicker at exactly 2:17 am every night, like clockwork. if you go back, try paying with a 500 yen coin and see if he hands it back without looking at it, that's the creepiest part according to the locals

You're talking about the one on Route 16 near the old Toden Arakawa line tracks, right? That station's been there since the 70s and locals have whispered about it for decades. I've heard the attendant job has a crazy turnover rate, people quit after a week saying they can't handle the "silence" inside. The cold hand thing is the most common story I've heard, a few taxi drivers I know refuse to fill up there after midnight.

Yeah, that place has a weird reputation. I've heard the old owner died in the storage room in the early 2000s and they never really changed the layout. Some locals say if you look at the security camera feed near the register, you'll sometimes see an extra shadow that doesn't match anyone there.

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

While the local bacon works well in many recipes, I specifically want the crispy type. Where might I find this style of bacon?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
