Is FamilyMart ramen any good?

Grabbed a cup of ramen, hoping for the best. It was... surprisingly decent? Not amazing, but definitely edible at that hour. Now, my question is: is this typical FamilyMart ramen quality, or did I just get lucky with this particular location? I'm thinking of trying another one tomorrow, but want to know what to expect.

i mean it's fine for what it is but you're missing out if you don't hit up the hot snack counter instead. the fried chicken there (fami-chiki) is way better than any cup ramen and it's always fresh at 3am. grab that and a onigiri and you've got a better meal than anything in a styrofoam cup

the cup ramen is pretty standard across all family marts, so you didn't get lucky. but if you want something better at 3am, head to the chilled section and grab the maruchan brand fresh noodles. they're in clear plastic trays with a separate soup packet, usually near the eggs and tofu. the tonkotsu one is solid and takes like 4 minutes in the microwave. i've had way better luck with those than the cup versions, especially at the shinjuku location near the station where they actually restock at night

honestly if you want the best late night conbini ramen, skip the cup stuff and grab the fresh noodles from the fridge section instead. the ones in the plastic trays with the separate soup packets are way better, especially the tonkotsu ones. they take like 3 min in the microwave but taste legit, like actual ramen shop quality compared to the cup version

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

While the local bacon works well in many recipes, I specifically want the crispy type. Where might I find this style of bacon?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
