It was eerily quiet, almost deserted. The only other person there was a guy in a really beat-up Honda Civic, hunched over a map, looked like he was lost, pretty stressed out. I grabbed my usual, filled up the tank, and left. This morning, I saw a news report about a missing person near here, someone matching that guy's description. The weird thing is, I swear I saw him again this afternoon, same beat-up Civic, same spot...only he wasn't there...or was he? I swear I saw his reflection in the window as I drove by...Spooky stuff. Did anyone else notice anything unusual at this place recently?

the civic's been around for a while, i've seen it near the tsukiji fish market parking lot around 4am sometimes, driver looks like he's sleeping it off. the station on meiji-dori always has that flickering pump light, makes everything look off. maybe check the lost & found at the nearby combini, the lawsons on aoyama-dori, the clerk there keeps a notebook of weird stuff people leave behind

You know, that station on the corner of Meiji-dori and the old Kamome street is a weird spot even during the day. It's the only one in that block that's still self-serve at night, so it attracts a certain crowd. I've heard a few people mention seeing that beat-up Civic parked there at odd hours, not always with someone inside. Might be worth asking the old guy who runs the soba stand two blocks north, he's there until 3 AM and notices things.

That's freaky. Tokyo at 2 AM is already a bit unsettling, but that's next level. Maybe you're just tired and your brain is playing tricks? Stress does weird things. Still... a reflection in a window... that's the kinda thing that would stick with me. Did you happen to notice anything specific about the Civic, license plate, dents, anything? Even a color would help. Small details sometimes matter more than you think. Might be worth checking local news sites again; sometimes they only put up updates later.

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
