Finding a Quiet Moment?

Even the quiet areas felt busy. I'm wondering, for patients needing some real peace and quiet, are there any particularly secluded spots within the grounds or nearby, maybe a small garden or something similar? It felt like finding a moment of calm was a challenge in itself.

honestly, if you walk out the main entrance and head left, there's a small shrine tucked between some buildings just a few minutes away. it's tiny but nobody's ever there, super quiet. also the hospital's rooftop garden is usually less crowded than the ground floor ones

That sounds incredibly tough. Hospital environments, even the best ones, can be intense. While I don't know the specific layout of Omori Red Cross Hospital, consider looking for smaller courtyards or even just sitting by a window away from main traffic areas. Sometimes a change in perspective, even a small one, can make a huge difference. If the hospital has a chapel or meditation room, those might offer a more peaceful atmosphere. Failing that, a quiet stroll in a nearby park in Shinagawa-ku after visiting hours might be what your grandmother needs. Just a suggestion, of course. Hope she feels better soon.

the rooftop garden is a solid call but honestly it gets crowded around lunchtime when staff go up there. if you go past the convenience store on the ground floor and out the back entrance, there's a tiny path that leads to a little bench area behind the boiler room. it's not pretty but it's dead quiet and has a vending machine. also the shinagawa minami park about a 5 minute walk south has a small pond area that's usually empty on weekday afternoons

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
