This Nishishinjukuhachi Post Office, it's got a reputation, right? I've heard whispers... legends... about its efficiency (or lack thereof). Seriously, are the lines always that insane? I'm picturing a scene from a chaotic anime, complete with exasperated salarymen and overflowing mail carts. Should I pre-book a slot? Is there some secret ninja technique for navigating this postal purgatory? Help a traveler out!

The Japan Post website has a live wait time tracker for major post offices, but it's only in Japanese so you'd need to translate the page. If you're mailing internationally, the EMS counter at the far end is usually less crowded than the regular window line. I've had better luck at the Shinjuku Post Office near the station for anything time-sensitive, it's bigger and the staff there seem to handle English questions more smoothly.

honestly the real move is just using the convenience store post service if you're not sending anything too crazy. the 7-Eleven near the south exit of Shinjuku station has a counter that does registered mail and it's never crowded. you just fill out the form on your phone and hand it to the clerk. works fine for documents and they give you a tracking number. way less hassle than dealing with that post office mess

If you're worried about the chaos, you could also try the post office inside the Shinjuku Post Office building near the station exit. It's usually less packed and the staff are used to dealing with foreigners sending documents. Plus there's a Lawson right there if you need envelopes or stamps.

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

While the local bacon works well in many recipes, I specifically want the crispy type. Where might I find this style of bacon?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
