The kids are super polite, almost unnervingly so. I saw this one hallway, though, totally deserted...just felt weird. Like something was lurking in the shadows. My cousin said nothing unusual happens, but there are rumors... about a ghost story tied to an old teacher or something. Anyone know anything about that spooky hallway? Is it just local legend or is there really something to it?

If the hallway you're thinking of is the one on the west side of the main building, past the old music rooms, that's the spot everyone brings up. The story goes that a teacher from the 1970s, a Mr. Tanaka, used to patrol that corridor at night and died of a heart attack right there, still clutching his attendance book. Kids say if you walk it alone after dark, you can hear the flip of pages and a soft tapping, like a cane, following a few steps behind you.

That said, most of the current students treat it as a rite of passage, not a real threat. I've known a few graduates who snuck back for a dare and swore they felt cold spots near the fourth window, but nothing more. Your cousin probably doesn't mention it because the school officially denies any history, but the janitorial staff sometimes leaves a small cup of tea on the ledge there, which is a classic gesture for restless spirits. Honestly, it's more of a cultural habit than a haunting, but if you're curious, go at dusk when the light hits the floorboards wrong and see if your neck hairs prickle.

oh yeah that hallway's famous, but not for the teacher story honestly. my buddy went to that school like ten years ago and said the real rumor is about a student who vanished in the 90s, left her shoes by the lockers near the east stairwell. kids used to leave little origami cranes on that spot until the school banned it. creepy part is the hallway gets super cold even in summer, like a/c's broken but it's not. prob just old pipes though.

You're getting a lot of lore, but the practical side is that the whole west corridor is just badly insulated and has a draft that funnels down from the old ventilation shafts. The cold spot near the fourth window lines up exactly with a broken vent grate that's been there since the 90s, the school's too cheap to fix it. I've done a bit of work in that building, and the temperature change is just physics, not spirits.

That said, the kids have their own quiet ritual you won't hear about from your cousin. Every year, the graduating class leaves a single white eraser on the ledge by that window, and the janitor collects them into a box in the storage room. Nobody admits to starting it, but it's been going on for over a decade now. It's a nice little tradition, more about saying goodbye than any ghost. If you want to see something actually odd, ask your cousin about the chalk marks on the doorframes of the old science rooms, little tally marks that appear every Monday morning, no one's ever caught who does them.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
