They say this particular 7-11 never sleeps. Seriously, apparently it's open 24/7, and it's not just your average corner store, they say it's practically a small department store. I'm wondering though, is the sheer volume of stuff actually organized? Like, could I get genuinely lost in there? Because that'd be amazing. Or terrifying. Maybe both?

The real trick to that 7-Eleven is the rhythm. Locals know you don't go in with a plan, you just let the layout pull you from the drink fridges to the snack aisle to the hot case near the registers. The organization is actually pretty logical once you get the flow, it's just that every section has way more depth than you'd expect. I'd say the most mind-bending part is the sandwich wall, it goes on for like three full rows and has options you've never seen outside of a proper bakery. You won't get lost in the maze sense, but you'll definitely lose track of time in there.

Dude, that 7-Eleven is insane. It's like a mini-conbini-wonderland. Organized? Sort of... It's crammed, yeah, but surprisingly not chaotic. More like...densely packed efficiency. You won't get lost lost, but you'll definitely spend longer than you intended browsing the sheer variety of stuff they stock. Think "everything you could possibly need, plus a hundred things you didn't know you needed." Prepare to be amazed (and maybe slightly overwhelmed).

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean! It's sensory overload in the best possible way. I once spent a good half hour just staring at the onigiri selection...so many choices! And the sheer volume of stuff...it's like a tiny, perfectly curated department store packed into a convenience store. I almost bought that weird melon soda just because it was so visually striking. Almost.

ngl theres one specific section in that 7-11 that trips everyone up - the hot food counter. its tucked in the back right corner past the drinks and theres like 30 different fried things in little boxes. the karaage there is actually solid for a convience store, way better than the Lawson down the street. you wont get lost but you might stand there for 10 minutes trying to decide between the spicy chicken and the regular one

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
