Is this the best onsen near here?

The sheer variety of onigiri alone could feed a small army! I grabbed a couple, plus a ridiculously huge bottle of iced matcha latte. Seriously, it was taller than my phone. I sat on a nearby bench, enjoying the evening buzz of the city, and felt like a local for a fleeting moment. I need to know, though - is this the closest I can get to an actual onsen experience without heading out to Hakone? I mean, there's gotta be some good bath houses around, right?

honestly the closest you'll get without heading out of the 23 wards is a sento like Jakotsuyu in Asakusa or the one in Koto-ku near Ojima station. they're not fancy but the water's real hot and the vibe is pure old tokyo. the 711 thing is funny but a proper bath house will fix you up way better than that matcha latte ever could. just bring your own towel and soap if you don't wanna rent em.

Nah, Seven Eleven's not an onsen. It's a fantastic Seven Eleven, I'll grant you that, that matcha latte sounds divine, but it's not exactly a hot spring. For a closer-to-home onsen experience than Hakone, you'd probably have to look at sento. They're public bathhouses, smaller and often less fancy than the big resort onsens, but still a really nice way to unwind. You'll find them dotted around, especially in older neighborhoods. Check online reviews, they'll give you a better idea of what's nearby and what people think. Good luck with your search!

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
