Shinjuku Banking Woes?

My biggest fear?… So, I'm heading to this bank in @Tokyo next week to sort out an international transfer. I've heard horror stories about navigating Japanese banking systems, even with decent Japanese. My biggest fear? Getting completely lost in translation and ending up accidentally opening a savings account in yen I can't access for 10 years. Any tips for a smooth transaction, or am I doomed to a bureaucratic nightmare?

Deep breaths. It's less of a horror movie and more of a... mildly frustrating, overly-formal paperwork experience. Bring ALL your documentation, passport, visa, EVERYTHING. Have your transfer details meticulously laid out in both English and Japanese (Google Translate is your friend, but double-check!). Don't be afraid to ask for clarification repeatedly if something doesn't make sense. Most bank staff will appreciate your attentiveness, even if their English is limited.

And yeah, the yen savings account thing is a legit concern. Before signing ANYTHING, have them explain it clearly in English, preferably, written down. If it seems even slightly dodgy, walk away. You can always try another branch. There are plenty of banks in Shinjuku. Good luck! You'll probably be fine, just be prepared for a slow, methodical process.

Wildlife near Nature Park Tokyo 2026: what actually shows up?

honestly the tanuki on the north loop past the pond are bold now and the itachi mostly clear out the mice near the bamboo grove by 6am

yeah the itachi are out early but its the kiji-bato and karasu taking over the food scraps thats teh real change

The north loop tanuki are denning under the fenced shed by the west gate now, which is why they don't scatter when you pass.

That shed's been padlocked since April so they've shifted to the drainage culvert behind the west gate toilets.

fair point on the culvert. i've been seeing scat along teh top of it most mornings now, more than a couple piles. think theyre using it as a latrine not a den tbh

saw a whole family on the east path last week

Which stretch though, near the pond outlet or further along? I've only been getting singles past the second bridge lately, so a family group is a good sign. Cubs too, or just adults?
