Heard stories about a hidden staircase somewhere on campus...supposedly leads to an old, abandoned part of the building. Anyone know anything about that? Is it just a local legend or... something more? I really wanna check it out, if it's safe, of course. The whole place has this weird, quiet energy...like it's holding its breath. And yeah, the graduation ceremony itself is kinda boring, so this might be more interesting.

My cousin taught at Kanto for a few years and said the staircase is real but it's just a maintenance access that leads to a tiny attic space above the old gymnasium. The whole story started because a student in the 90s hid up there during a fire drill and people assumed it was some kind of secret passage. It's probably not worth the hassle of dodging security guards who know exactly where students try to hide during graduation. There's a shaved ice shop two blocks north that does a really good matcha syrup, that's a better use of your time if the ceremony drags.

kind of wild how everyone's got a different version of this. i actually dated a guy who graduated from kanto high in 2018 and he said the staircase thing is real but its just the old emergency exit from the music room that got sealed up after a small fire in the storage closet. nothing spooky. the door is behind a row of lockers on the third floor near the art room, but honestly the lockers are bolted down so you cant even get to it anymore. if you want a better story ask about the koi pond behind the admin building that they drained in 2019 because someone kept dumping instant ramen in it. thats way more entertaining than dusty stairs.

i know exactly what you're talking about. my cousin went there and said the staircase is just an old fire escape that got bricked up after they built the new wing in the 90s. there's a small door near the boiler room that leads to it but it's locked with a padlock that hasn't been changed since like 2003 apparently. if you're set on finding it go during the reception when everyone's distracted, the key is supposedly on a hook in the janitor's closet by the main office. just be careful, the steps are uneven and the railing's loose in a few spots. honestly the best part of graduation is the weird food they serve after, last time i went they had these mini curry buns that were way better than any abandoned staircase

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
