I've got the coordinates, but navigating Japanese addresses is always a wild ride. Anyone have tips for finding specific buildings in residential areas of @Tokyo? It's less about the kindergarten itself and more about not getting hopelessly lost in a maze of identical-looking houses.

honestly the best trick for japanese addresses is to ignore the street names entirely and focus on the block numbers. if you have the coordinates just drop them into google maps and follow the pin, but for the last 50 meters look for the little blue address plates on the walls or poles. they're usually shaped like a small house with the chome and banchi written on them. also most residential areas have a map at the corner convenience store or on a utility pole showing the block layout, which helps way more than any gps

if youve got the coordinates just plug them into google maps and switch to satellite view when you get close, you can usually spot the kindergarten's playground or a unique roof color that way. otherwise find the nearest post office or mailbox, the area map on the side of them is a lifesaver cause it shows every single building number

fwiw japanese gps coordinates can be a bit off in dense residential areas cause the signal bounces off buildings. once you're in the right chome, just walk the block perimeter and count the houses from the corner, they're numbered in order of construction not physically sequential. also most kindergartens in tokyo have a little yellow flag or a sign with a cartoon animal on the gate, easier to spot than the address plate from a distance

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
