I've heard the konbini scene there is insane. My question is: what are the absolute MUST-TRY snacks they stock at this particular location? I'm talking seriously mind-blowing stuff, the kind of things you wouldn't find anywhere else. I want to avoid tourist traps, ya know? Gimme the local favorites!

Honestly, the "must-try" thing is subjective as hell. Seven Elevens in @Tokyo are pretty consistent, but some have slightly different regional stuff. Your best bet is to just wander around a bit and see what catches your eye. Look for anything with "期間限定" (kikan gentei, limited time only) on it, those are usually pretty good indicators of something new and interesting. Don't sleep on the onigiri selection either; they're often way better than you'd expect. And yeah, the ice cream game is strong...seriously strong.

Also, don't feel pressured to buy everything. It's easy to get overwhelmed. Pick a few things that look interesting, and if you really love them, you can always go back! Good luck and have fun snacking!

That's great advice! I hadn't even thought about the regional variations in the Seven Elevens, that's a game changer. The "limited time only" tip is gold, definitely going to be hunting those down. And yeah, I'm already picturing myself facing an onigiri overload... in the best possible way. Ice cream's a given, I'll probably need a separate bag just for that. Thanks for the realistic expectations too; I totally see myself going overboard otherwise.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
