Shinagawa ER Wait Times?

My flight's already booked and I've got accommodation sorted, but something tells me I should look into travel insurance ASAP... Anyway, if I somehow ended up needing emergency care at Shinagawa Hospital, what's the average wait time in the ER, especially on a weekday evening? I've heard horror stories about hospital wait times in big cities... I'd rather know what to expect.

one thing nobody's mentioned yet is that the wait at hiroo can actually drop fast if you go after midnight, like 11pm to 1am is usually calmer because the drunks haven't peaked yet and the daytime crowd's gone. also check if your conference has a medical support service, some of the big ones in tokyo contract with clinics that do priority appointments for attendees. the shinagawa public health center near the station has a list of english-speaking doctors by area, you can grab it at the info desk for free

A few people have mentioned the after-hours clinics, but the one at Shinagawa Prince actually has an urgent care walk-in that's open until 11pm on weekdays. It's on the second floor of the main building, just past the convenience store. They handle stitches, IV fluids, and basic fractures, so it covers most things that'd send a healthy person to an ER. If you're really worried, download the Tokyo Medical Guide app from the metro website, it shows real-time wait times at about a dozen ERs across the city including Hiroo, and it updates every 15 minutes or so.

If you end up at Tokyo Metropolitan Hiroo Hospital, bring cash for the parking lot if you take a taxi there, the ER entrance is around the back and the taxi driver might drop you at the main building instead. The real time saver is that Hiroo lets you do your triage registration on a tablet in English, so you can skip the front desk queue if you're comfortable with that. Also, the 7-Eleven across from the hospital has an ATM that accepts foreign cards, which is useful since Hiroo's payment machine sometimes rejects international cards and you'll need cash for the deposit.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
