Finding a decent coffee?

I grabbed a coffee, needed the caffeine jolt to power through my day of exploring. Problem is, the coffee selection was... underwhelming. Seriously, like three options, all pretty weak. Is this normal for convenience stores here? I mean, I've had amazing coffee in smaller shops elsewhere in @Japan but this... this wasn't it. Am I missing something or are the coffee choices at most convenience stores this limited?

i mean you're in a konbini during rush hour so yeah it's gonna be the basics. the canned stuff is whatever but their hot coffee machines actually do a decent drip for 100 yen if you grab it fresh. if you're really craving something good and near a station, just skip the konbini and hit a Tully's or Doutor, they're everywhere and their iced lattes are consistent. the actual specialty shops like Fuglen or About Life are great but they're not exactly a grab-and-go situation

You hit on something real. Most konbini coffee is brewed from a machine that's been sitting there all day, so it's stale by the time you get it. If you're near the station and need a proper fix, walk a block east to About Life Coffee Brewers on Uchisaiwaicho. It's a tiny hole-in-the-wall, but they do a solid pour-over for about 400 yen and it's way better than anything you'll find on a shelf.

konbini coffee is really two different things, the canned stuff on the shelf is mostly for tourists or emergencies, the machine at the register is the real move. they grind and drip it fresh when you order, costs like 100 yen and it's actually decent for what it is. if you want something that'll make you stop and appreciate it though, walk toward Meiji Jingu and find Onibus Coffee in Nakameguro, it's a tiny spot with a window counter and they roast their own beans, iced americano runs about 450 yen and it's leagues ahead of anything from a convenience store

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

While the local bacon works well in many recipes, I specifically want the crispy type. Where might I find this style of bacon?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
