It looks...intense? Lots of tiny little windows and what looks like a million people always in line. Anyone been there? How long is the average wait time, really? I'm worried about missing my flight if I spend half the day stuck there... I should of probably planned this better. My Japanese is... nonexistent.

yeah the nishishinjuku post office is actually fine if u avoid the lunch rush (11:30-1:30) and the 5pm after-work crowd. i go there like twice a month for shipping stuff and the worst ive waited was maybe 10 minutes around 3pm. there's a self-service machine for basic shipping too, has english options on the touchscreen. just dont go on the first or last day of the month when everyone's paying bills

fwiw if you're just sending documents, the post office at shinjuku station's new south exit is way less chaotic than the main nishishinjuku one. it's in the odakyu halc building basement, maybe a 7 min walk from where you're staying. went there last tuesday around 2pm and was in and out in 5 minutes, clerk spoke basic english and just pointed at where to write the address. just make sure u bring cash cause that machine sometimes rejects foreign cards

honestly the line moves faster than it looks, people know what they're doing in there. just go around 10am on a weekday and you'll be out in 15 minutes tops

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
