Omorisanno's Secret?

It looks... unnerving, to say the least. The online photos are sparse, and what few there are seem almost deliberately obscured. I'm fascinated by its history, though. Apparently, it's been around for ages, and local legends whisper of strange occurrences. I'm not usually into ghost stories, but... the air of mystery is intriguing. My question is: are there any local guides or tours that explore the less-official history of the hospital? I'd love to hear some firsthand accounts, even if it's just from someone who worked there once. Or maybe just a good old creepypasta, y'know?

That's a seriously intriguing place. Omorisanno's... yeah, the photos are unsettling. I've lived in @Tokyo for years and even I haven't heard of organized tours focusing on its, uh, unique history. You might have better luck digging through Japanese forums and blogs, maybe try searching with keywords like "旧大森病院 噂" (kyū Ōmori byōin uwasa), that translates roughly to "Old Omorisanno Hospital rumors." You'll probably find some pretty wild stuff that way. Good luck, and maybe bring a change of underwear.

Whoa, thanks! That's way more helpful than anything I've found so far. The "Old Omorisanno Hospital rumors" search terms are gold, I hadn't even thought to try that in Japanese. And yeah, the photos...definitely gave me the creeps. Change of underwear is a solid suggestion; I'll pack extra. Wish me luck! I'll report back with what I unearth... if I make it out.

Honestly, I'd skip trying to find a guide for that place. Most locals I know just treat it as a spooky landmark and don't take the legends too seriously. You'd probably have more luck just wandering around the area at dusk and chatting up some old-timers at a nearby izakaya, if you can find one that's still open.

ngl the creepypasta angle is probably ur best bet. check out the jp side of youtube or niconico for old urban legend videos from the 2010s way more detailed than any english stuff youll find

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
