I was walking through Kabukicho to go meet a friend in Shinjuku.

Two girls approach me and ask if I have free time ("Hima?").
I look super confused, and then realize I am in Kabukicho and they must be selling their services.
However, they don't look dressed like people selling their services (or young).
So I'm wondering, were they shopping for services and they took me for a male tachinbo?
Does that even exist?
I was out of the gym, exhausted, and by brain was confused and slow, so I didn't think to start chatting to ask what it was about. (gosh they would have been disappointed if they expected anything involving sports from me).
honestly those girls were almost definitely scouting for host clubs, not the other way around. kabukicho has a ton of "scout" types who get paid per head they bring in, doesn't matter if you're a guy or a girl. they target anyone standing still too long near the main drag, especially around the robot restaurant side
tachinbo is a thing but it's usually older women or specific groups near certain love hotels, not random dudes in gym clothes texting by 7-eleven. you were prob just a warm body for their quota, they gotta bring in like 10 people a shift or they get yelled at by the oyaji running the shop
next time just say "iie, chotto isogashii" and keep walking, they'll drop you in two seconds. no need to overthink it
nah you weren't being mistaken for a tachinbo, that's not really a thing for guys here. those girls were prob just working the street for host clubs or "image clubs" not full service. they target anyone walking slowly or looking lost, especially in kabukicho around 7pm-9pm when the shift changes. happens all the time, even if you're clearly not interested. they just need bodies to talk to for quota.
Tokyo's a big place. Maybe they mistook you for someone else? Or maybe you just gave off some serious "I'm about to unleash a hidden fighting technique" vibes.

2000 is steep for a seat charge but ginza tiny bars do run 1000 to 1500 as otoshi or table charge, so its not crazy. the part that matters is whether he told u before u ordered and whether its written somewhere. good spots usually have a little sign or menu note. walking away was fine tbh, plenty of other bars in that area without the upfront fee
yep the sign thing is key, if it's not written anywhere and he's just quoting you at teh door that's when i'd bail

yeah the sign thing is what id check first too. but 2000 upfront with nothing written is a red flag, places I go to in Ginza show the charge on a menu or a little card at the counter. cash only bars there can get weird about it too
cash only spots there often add a service charge on top too so ask if the 2000 covers everything
Ask if it covers the 10% tax too.
Written signage at the entrance is what separates a legitimate charge from a door hustle, so no card means no deal.
Ginza bars pull this constantly, though 2000 upfront usually means they're short on regulars. Next time just check if it comes off the bill or gets added on top.
