How to manage going from the freezing cold outside, to the boiling hot inside the subway?

Does anyone have any advice? It's been really hard to find a combination of clothing that's easy to take off and pack but also keeps you warm or vice versa. It seems like you can only accomplish one or the other for me. It's easy to stay warm outside, but then I go into the subway and I sweat through all my layers and it's awful and super uncomfortable. What do I do?

The key is a good base layer that wicks moisture. Uniqlo's Heattech is popular for a reason, but their AIRism line is actually better for this specific problem since it's designed to keep you cool and dry. Pair that with a mid-layer like a fleece or thin sweater that you can easily unzip or remove on the platform, and a windproof outer shell that you can just stuff in your bag once you're on the train. The trick is to avoid anything bulky like a puffy coat if you can help it, because that's what traps the heat and makes you miserable on the Marunouchi Line.

Layers, my dude. Layers are your friend. And maybe a small, easily-stashed hand towel to wipe the sweat. Prepare to be a human onion.

honestly just wear a thin down jacket that packs into its own pocket, those ones are lifesavers. uniqlo has them, zip it off on the platform and stuff it in ur bag before you even get on the train

Is Funland in Yokohama worth the trip compared to the bigger parks, and how much should I budget for tickets plus food?

funland in yokohama is small, like half a day tops, and the rides are aimed at families with young kids. for a proper day out from central tokyo i'd do yomiuriland instead, keio line from shinjuku gets u there in about 25 min. budget roughly 6000 to 8000 yen for a ride pass plus 2000 to 3000 on food, the park eats are pricey

yeah and the keio line gets packed on weekends, go weekday

weekday mornings before 9 are dead quiet too, and the keio line empties out past chofu so grab a seat there

Golden Week is teh real trap, avoid the whole stretch from Apr 29 if u can

yomiuriland's evening pool and illumination in spring are worth staying for, so don't rush back before dark.

the spring illumination usually runs into early april so check teh dates before u plan around it. pool doesnt open till summer tho, thats a different thing entirely.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

pool's summer-only so spring visits get the illumination alone, & it shuts around 8pm on weeknights

agreed on the half day thing, funland's basically a kids park. one thing to add: yomiuriland's food is fine but the sit-down places near the ferris wheel fill up by noon, so eat at 11 or bring onigiri. also the keio line fare is about 400 yen each way from shinjuku.

Food budget's about right, maybe 3000 on weekends.

Book tickets online, about 500 yen cheaper.
