The Dr tells me I have asthma.. asthma doesn't run in my family and the asthma medication doesn't seem to be doing anything. I took a covid test that came up negative.

My head is still pounding, my chest and back are killing me from the coughing I can't breath without feeling like I'm coughing up water.

I want a Dr that is actually going to listen and to take a damn pet scan of my chest to see what is going on.

I have two young children and can't function like this.

honestly that sounds rough, especially with kids at home. if you're not getting anywhere with a standard clinic, try heading to a bigger hospital with a good internal medicine (naika) department. i've had decent luck at Tokyo Medical and Dental University Hospital in Bunkyo, they're used to complex cases and won't just hand you more asthma meds. also, ngl, a PET scan is prob overkill for what you're describing - they'd likely start with a chest CT and some blood work to rule out pneumonia or fluid in the lungs, which matches the coughing up water feeling. if you can swing it, bring a Japanese-speaking friend or use a medical translation app, cause the language barrier can make them brush you off faster

try the international clinic at kameda medical center in shinjuku, they do full workups and actually listen. ask for a chest ct, not a pet scan, that's the standard for ruling out pneumonia or fluid

yeah that sounds like it could be pneumonia or even pleurisy, not asthma. skip the small clinics and go straight to St. Luke's in Tsukiji or Keio Hospital in Shinjuku, they have english support and will actually do a CT. fwiw a PET scan is usually for cancer staging, they'd never start with that for a cough

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
