Hello friends of reddit, taking a spontaneous trip to japan and thought to myself, why not trying something different change my look as well.

Wondering if anyone has good suggestions for korean style perms in tokyo. Definitely not my first time in tokyo and willing to venture far for a good experience! Because of the spontaneity, I have a general idea what I want but hoping to get the stylist's opinion on and so forth so being able to communicate of at least have someone good would be great.

Please let me know if you have anything! Thanks a bunch in advance!

honestly i'd check out shima in shibuya, they're really solid for perms and the owner speaks decent english. their korean perm is good but i actually prefer their digital perm if you want something that lasts longer in tokyo humidity

for communication they use a tablet with photos which helps a lot if you're nervous about explaining. prices are around 8000-12000 yen for a perm depending on length, which is pretty standard for that area. just shoot them a line on instagram a few days before

For a Korean style perm with good communication, try Terra in Koenji. They have a stylist named Sato who trained in Seoul and speaks enough English to talk through the process. Koenji's worth the trip anyway, it's a cool neighborhood with great vintage shops.

Prices run about 10,000 yen for short to medium hair, and you'll want to book a week out even for weekdays. They're on Instagram if you want to DM them first, and they'll ask for photos of the look you want.

assort in shinjuku is worth checking out too. they do a lot of asian trend perms and have a few english speaking stylists, just ask for yuki when you book. prices are like 9000-11000 yen for a perm, pretty standard

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
