Im looking to train MMA while in Tokyo for atleast a month or two. I want to primarily focus on my wrestling and Boxing so a MMA gym that also prioritises this as well and not just Jui jitsu and kickboxing.

(I mean separate focus technical drills in boxing and wrestling.in addition to No Gi and kickboxing or MMA)

Which gym would you recommend? Iv head tribe Tokyo MMA is good ? And there's another one called tribe Tokyo MMA north ?

Thanks! 😃

Some of these gyms may have trial periods or introductory offers that can help you get a feel for their programs, Kakutogi gym in Shimokitazawa for example offers a free trial class on Saturdays from 2 to 4 pm. Classes at Nobuhiko Takada's gym in Suginami are usually smaller, around 5-10 people, which can be beneficial if you prefer more personalized attention from the coaches. Considering your focus on wrestling and boxing, it might be worth checking out a gym that also offers conditioning classes, like Fight Club near Kichijoji station, they have a strength and conditioning program that can help you improve your overall performance. Prices for these conditioning classes are around 1,500 yen per session or 5,000 yen a month for unlimited access.

Purebred Gym's strong wrestling program is a good option, but it's worth noting that their classes can get pretty full, especially on weekends. If you're looking for a more low-key atmosphere, you might want to check out Kakutogi gym in Shimokitazawa, they offer a mix of wrestling and boxing classes, and their head coach has experience training with some of the top Japanese MMA fighters, classes are around 2,000 yen per session or 8,000 yen a month for unlimited classes, it's a bit of a hike from central Tokyo but the Shimokitazawa area is pretty chill and has a lot to offer.

The commute to Yokohama might be a bit much if you're staying in central Tokyo, so you might want to consider a gym that's more conveniently located. I've trained at a gym near Kichijoji station called Fight Club, they offer a pretty solid wrestling program with classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 9 pm, and their boxing coach is a veteran of the Japanese amateur circuit. They also have a partnership with a local sports equipment store, so you can get discounts on gear and apparel, which can be a plus if you're looking to stock up on supplies. Their membership fees are around 12,000 yen a month for unlimited classes, which is a bit steep but the small class sizes and experienced coaches make it worth it.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
