It seemed to be a rustic feeling apartment building that had all its doors removed and converted into a restaurant. It was off to a side street not to far from the scramble (to me recollection).

There are several different kinds of couches, chairs, and tables making up all of the dining seating. Some feeling like eating at a dinner table, others in chairs with a coffee table/side tables.

There was a modest sized balcony overlooking the side street with larger plastic covering (during the winter) to help lock in the heat.

Really hoping to visit again but can't find anything on google maps.

Thank you so much in advance!

yeah that place is still kicking, it's called "the apartment shibuya" on google maps if u want to find it exactly. it's tucked in that maze of alleys behind tower records, not the donki side

the balcony setup is def the winter thing, they wrap it in that thick vinyl every year. if u go during warmer months the whole place opens up and it's way better tbh. fwiw the food is basic bar fare but the drinks are cheap for shibuya, like 600 yen for a highball

if you're tryna recapture that vibe with better food, check out "mexican bar" on the second floor of that building near the 109. same kinda messy furniture vibe but their tacos actually slap

i think you're talking about the place on the meiji dori side, off that narrow street with the old sento building. it's got that whole "someone's old apartment" look with the sliding doors taken off and mismatched furniture everywhere. the balcony's the giveaway with the plastic sheeting, they've been doing that for years

the food's fine for what it is but honestly i go there more for the late night crowd, gets pretty lively after 10pm when the travelers and locals mix. if you want a similar apartment vibe but with a better view of the scramble, try "the loft" on the 6th floor of that building near the starbucks reserve, they have a tiny balcony too but no plastic wrap

oh i know the one you're talking about, pretty sure it's called "the apartment" or something similar? it's on that little side street behind the don quijote, the one that leads up toward the love hotel hill. it's still there, i walked past it a few months ago

the balcony plastic thing is a giveaway, they put those up every winter. honestly the food is just okay but the vibe is unbeatable for a casual drink with friends. if you want something similar but with better food, try "taiyo" a few blocks over, same kind of mismatched furniture feel

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
