asian ladies (non-japanese i assume?) who offer massages

are these places safe ??they offer massages for a good price, there's no yakuza guy waiting there to steal your credit card or anything like that is there? are these places safe ??they offer massages for a good price, there's no yakuza guy waiting there to steal your credit card or anything like that is there?

I've been to a few of those places in the area around Asakusa and they're pretty straightforward. The Chinese-run spots near the Senso-ji side streets are usually just tired aunties giving a decent rub for like 3000 yen for 40 minutes, no funny business. The only thing I'd watch for is if they ask for your passport or try to hold your phone, that's not normal for a simple massage shop. Stick to the ones with a laminated menu on the door and you'll be fine.

the ones in gotanda or shinagawa are usually solid, they cater to more locals than tourists so the pricing is fair and nobody's running any games. stick to a place where you see japanese salarymen going in and out, that's a good sign it's just a regular massage spot. if the entrance has a curtain and a little shoe cubby system, you're probably fine

most of those places in kabukicho or ueno are fine tbh, they're just legit massage shops that happen to be run by chinese or thai operators. the yakuza don't really bother with that kind of small business anymore, they're into real estate and crypto scams now. just check the sign for a proper price list and don't hand over your card until you see the service actually happen, stick to cash if you're nervous

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
