Good sit down cake and tea ?

Kinda like Harbs. But not harbs. Also not afternoon tea as we just did that at the Ritz Carlton (which was great). Kinda like Harbs. But not harbs. Also not afternoon tea as we just did that at the Ritz Carlton (which was great).

tbh i'd hit up cafe comme ca in ginza. their shortcake is legit and they have a seasonal fruit tart that changes every month. the tea selection is solid, they do a nice darjeeling that pairs well with the cream cakes. around 1500 yen for a set. way less crowded than harbs on a weekday afternoon

honestly if you want something more japanese than french, try chinya in shinjuku. they've been doing matcha parfaits and warabi mochi since the 50s, proper sit down place with tatami seating. the hojicha cake is my favorite, it's not too sweet and they serve it with a side of kuromitsu syrup. around 1200 yen for the set, feels like a real kyoto style tea house but in tokyo

since you liked the ritz afternoon tea and want something between that and harbs, you might dig salon de the mura in jiyugaoka. it's a french style salon with proper silver service but way more relaxed than a hotel. the mont blanc is their signature, they pipe it fresh to order and the chestnut paste is house made. tea list is about 20 varieties, all loose leaf, and they do a really good second flush darjeeling. around 1800 yen for a set and jiyugaoka has those little lanes to browse after

Is Foodland in Tokyo worth a stop for groceries in 2026?

Staying near one next month and wondering if Foodland is more of a local basics store or actually good for cheap meals and snacks. any must buy items there? foodland is basically a discount grocer so don't expect a full meal setup, but the prepared bento and onigiri near the register are cheap and fine for a quick lunch. grab the store brand yogurt drinks and any marked down sashimi if u see it early

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Agree on the sashimi, but go before 10am since the 20-30% off stickers land early and the good trays vanish by noon.

Weekday mornings beat weekends, shelf gets wiped by 9.

Yogurt drinks go fast on weekends.

Their hot deli case, cheap and filling.

Check the meat counter, 50% off after 7pm.

store brand milk & tofu, cheapest in the neighborhood

honestly the onigiri are fine but the real move is the frozen gyoza, cheap and decent. dunno why nobody mentions it. maybe google the rest.

karaage there is solid but ask them to re-fry it if it's been sitting, way better hot
