Something inside one of the pivot joints snapped and the speaker is now hanging by the wires from the headband.

Having checked the official Sony repair service, their price is too yenny for me. I have searched through past Reddit posts and Google results for Tokyo based repair services and generally found they all say they do not fix physical damage to casings, only internal speaker/wire issues.

Has anyone gotten their headphones repaired in Tokyo? Looking for something other than "go to Akiba" as I don't particularly trust just leaving them with random market stall owner Taro without some sort of personal recommendation, even if only from Reddit anons. Many thanks!

There's a place in Takadanobaba called Fix-It Shop that does small electronics repairs. They fixed a cracked headphone hinge on my old pair for about 4000 yen. The guy speaks enough English to explain what's broken and will tell you upfront if it's not worth fixing. It's in the basement of the building across from Waseda University's main gate.

honestly check out some of the smaller camera repair shops in Shinjuku, they often deal with tiny precision work and might take on a headphone casing fix since it's similar to fixing a lens hinge. there's one near the west exit called Camera no Sakuraya that does random electronics repairs too, I've seen them fix a laptop hinge once so they're not scared of plastic damage

if that fails you could try the guy at Nakano Broadway who runs the little booth on the 3rd floor near the escalators, he's been fixing audio gear for like 20 years and charges way less than Sony. just bring cash because he doesn't take cards and his English is minimal so have a photo of the damage ready on your phone

if you're near shibuya, try the electronics repair counter in the basement of yodobashi camera. they took a look at my bose hinges a while back and quoted me 3000 yen for the fix. not sure if they do sony specifically but worth asking at the info desk before you go digging around akiba

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
