I'm more of a physical book reader than e books. Is the library here a good option? Any books stores that sells cheaper books in English? I like to read memoir or autobiographical books. ( the last book I read was I'm glad my mom died.) I do have sf and ny library card in the states and maybe I can read e books there? I live in Setagaya ward.

Any tips or recommendations are welcomed!! Thanks!

For physical English books in Setagaya, check out the Book Off near Sangenjaya station. They usually have a small English section in the back with paperbacks for around 300 to 500 yen, and memoirs show up pretty often. The Setagaya ward libraries actually have a decent English collection too, especially the Chitosedai library. You can borrow up to 10 books at a time for two weeks with a free library card, just bring your residence card. For your US library cards, most let you access ebooks through Libby or OverDrive even from Japan, so that's worth checking before you buy anything.

tbh just hit up the English section at Tsutaya in Shimokitazawa, they have a rotating shelf of used paperbacks and I've snagged memoirs for like 500 yen. also if you're in Setagaya, the Kinokuniya in Shinjuku has a whole floor for English books but they're full price, so only worth it if you're desperate

You could try the Book Off Bazaar down near Futako-Tamagawa, they've got a bigger selection than the smaller stores and I've found some good memoirs there for cheap. Also, most ward libraries in Tokyo let you request books from other branches online, so if Chitosedai doesn't have what you want, they'll ship it over for free.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
