Soup curry lovers, which place in Tokyo has the best one?
What are your recommendations for it? Bonus ques… I feel soup curry is underrated when it comes to Japanese food. I love to eat it, but in Tokyo I always go to Suage on Shibuya, which can get crowded.

If you're already doing Suage in Shibuya, take a short walk to Yoyogi-Uehara and hit up Soup Curry & Dining. Their base is a bit more coconut-forward than the standard Japanese version, which makes it feel richer without being heavy. The lunch set comes with a drink and salad for about 1100 yen, and there's usually no wait on weekdays.
For toppings I rotate between the whole tomato and the roasted cauliflower. The tomato breaks down into the broth and adds acidity that cuts through the richness, and the cauliflower gets charred on the edges before they drop it in. Kabocha is still a safe bet though, it's popular for a reason.
honestly i think Rojiura Curry Samurai in Shimokitazawa is slept on. their soup base has this deep roasted vegetable flavor that's different from the typical chicken broth places use, and the portions are huge for the price (around 1200 yen last time i went). the line moves faster than Suage too since they have more seats upstairs
for toppings i'm all about the slow-cooked pork belly and the seasonal veggies. they do a pumpkin option that's similar to kabocha but sometimes they have satsumaimo instead which is even sweeter. the menma (bamboo shoots) is also a good call if you want something with texture that doesn't get soggy
Suage is solid but you should try Rojie in Koenji. Their soup is a bit thinner and more herbal than the heavy curry roux style, and the chicken thigh comes fall-apart tender. Koenji is worth the trip anyway for the vintage shops and live houses.
For toppings, I go with whole boiled egg and lotus root. The egg soaks up the broth nicely and lotus root adds a crunch that breaks up all the soft vegetables. Kabocha is a classic choice though, you can't really go wrong with it.

yeah the old Whitebox spot got gutted around then, last I walked past it was a startup office on the upper floors. kuramae's decent but honestly Kiyosumi-Shirakawa side is quieter and the rents are still half of Shibuya. miyamasuzaka is basically all towers now.
kuramae's rents crept up too since the tawaman went in, kiyosumi side is still the better bet
whitebox actually closed back in 2018, the space is a gallery-slash-coworking thing now. shibuya's still fine to live in but the rents near miyamasuzaka have jumped hard, more office towers than studios these days. if you want that old creative vibe try kuramae or kiyosumi instead
