What Will Map Camera Buy?

Most of the time, Cameras and Lenses are mentioned. I sold my cameras before moving to Japan, but I have a bunch of light stands, softboxes, and Godox flashes. I live out in the sticks on the outskirts of Tokyo and I'd hate to schlep all that gear in, only to be told no. Does anyone know if Map Camera will buy Softboxes, Godox Flashes, and Light Stands?

Honestly Map Camera is pretty picky about non-camera body/lens stuff. They'll take Godox flashes if they're in good shape but softboxes and light stands are a crapshoot - they mostly deal in gear that fits in their glass cases. You'd have better luck at Fujiya Camera in Nakano or just using Mercari/Yahoo Auctions for the stands and modifiers since shipping within Japan is cheap enough. The walk from Shinjuku station to Map Camera is also a solid 10 minutes with heavy bags so I wouldn't risk it for stuff they might not take

fyi map camera's site has a list of what they don't buy, stands and softboxes are usually a hard no for them. try hardoff if you're near one, they'll take pretty much anything and you don't have to go all the way into central tokyo

yeah map camera is mostly for bodies and glass tbh. for godox stuff and modifiers try kitamura camera, they have a bigger used section in most locations and are less fussy. the one in shinjuku is right by the station too, way shorter walk than map camera. worst case you can mail it to them for a quote, they do that

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
