Any recommendations for me? Some place in Shibuya or Roppongi maybe?

You've been in Tokyo a month so you probably know the gaijin-hunter thing is real in Roppongi, but if you want a spot where being foreign is an advantage without the aggressive vibe, try FAI in Shibuya. It's a smaller club near the Mark City complex, mostly plays EDM and pop remixes, and the crowd is heavy on Japanese girls who are open to chatting with foreigners. Cover is around 2500 yen on weekends and they do a 1000 yen drink ticket that gets you in the door. Just know it gets packed by 1am so show up around 11:30 to avoid the line.

If you're in Shibuya and want something a bit more laid back but still lively, try Harlem on Dogenzaka. It's smaller than Womb and plays mostly hip hop and R&B, so the crowd tends to be a little more social and less focused on dancing in a dark room. Cover is around 2000 yen and they often have ladies' night deals early on. Just be ready for a younger crowd, mostly early to mid 20s.

Roppongi is where you'll find the most gaijin-hunting crowd, but it can get pretty aggressive and touristy. If you want something more balanced, check out Womb in Shibuya - it's a proper club with good sound and a mixed crowd that's less pushy. The cover is usually around 2000-3000 yen and it stays open until 5am on weekends. Just don't expect anything to happen before midnight, Japanese clubs don't really get going until late.

Whitebox in Tokyo 2026: Is It Still Worth It?

I used to go there for exhibitions all the time but I heard it's changed, and I'm wondering if the neighborhood is still worth living in or if it's all just turned into offices now.

yeah the old Whitebox spot got gutted around then, last I walked past it was a startup office on the upper floors. kuramae's decent but honestly Kiyosumi-Shirakawa side is quieter and the rents are still half of Shibuya. miyamasuzaka is basically all towers now.

kuramae's rents crept up too since the tawaman went in, kiyosumi side is still the better bet

whitebox actually closed back in 2018, the space is a gallery-slash-coworking thing now. shibuya's still fine to live in but the rents near miyamasuzaka have jumped hard, more office towers than studios these days. if you want that old creative vibe try kuramae or kiyosumi instead
