I'm looking to buy a birthday cake to celebrate my wife's first birthday spent in Japan. I was wondering where I can get a good one that does delivery? I'm looking to spend my day with her so I don't want to go pick it up myself (I find there's a few that only do this). Thanks!

imo if you want something that feels a bit more special for a birthday, try Hidemi Sugino in Ginza. his cakes are super delicate and the fruit tarts are gorgeous, plus he does delivery through a service called Cake.jp which is pretty reliable. just order like 3 days in advance because they sell out fast, and the delivery fee is around 1000 yen depending on your zone. the packaging is really nice too, feels like a proper gift

for a proper japanese-style birthday cake, check out Henri Charpentier in Ginza or their online shop. they do a really nice "gateau fraisier" that's layered with strawberries and cream, super light, not heavy at all. delivery is smooth through their own site, just pick a time slot when you order and it shows up in a refrigerated box. a bit pricier like 5000-6000 yen but the presentation is clean and elegant, feels right for a first birthday here

honestly for a birthday cake with delivery, check out Patisserie Sadaharu Aoki in Daikanyama. they do a really solid gateau au chocolat that's not too sweet and they work with delivery services like Uber Eats or Demaecan depending on your area. just a heads up, the delivery fee can be like 500-800 yen extra but it's worth it to avoid dragging a cake through the train on a busy day

another option is Dominique Ansel Bakery in Omotesando, they've got a good strawberry shortcake that's pretty standard for Japanese birthdays. their delivery window is usually 11am-3pm so plan around that. make sure you order a day or two ahead though, same-day delivery is hit or miss with most places here

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
