I really want to have an ice luge* at a party I'm hosting in a few weeks and my Google-fu has failed me, though I did learn about a pretty neat ice sculpting school. So, is it possible to buy/order one anywhere in Tokyo?

if you don't know what an ice luge is, it's a large ice sculpture/block in which you pour alcohol at the top of it, and it flows down a "luge/channel into a waiting mouth.

Thanks!

tbh the easiest way might be to just hit up one of the big event rental places in Odaiba. there's a company called Tokyo Party Rentals that does custom ice sculptures for weddings and stuff, they def have luges or can make one for a couple man yen. i've seen their work at a friend's rooftop party in Nakameguro and it was solid

if you want something smaller and more DIY, the Yamashita Shoten liquor store in Shimokitazawa sometimes stocks those plastic ice luge molds you freeze yourself. they're not as fancy but way cheaper and you can just reuse the mold. call them first tho, they're a tiny shop and inventory changes fast

You'll want to check out the party supply stores in the Kappabashi area near Asakusa. There's a shop called Hanabishi that carries all sorts of rental and purchase options for event ice sculptures, and they can do custom orders if you give them enough notice. For a more immediate fix, the liquor shops around Roppongi sometimes stock smaller tabletop ice luges during the summer months, but you'd be better off calling ahead. The ice sculpting school you found might also know a supplier or even be willing to rent you one directly.

honestly you might have better luck just renting one from a catering company rather than trying to buy. places like Party City Japan or Tokyo Rentals in Shinjuku have ice luge kits for events, they'll even drop it off and set it up for you. i've seen smaller ones at Don Quijote in Shibuya during summer but it's hit or miss. if u want something custom, try contacting the ice sculptors at the Tokyo Ice Carving Association directly, they're used to one-off requests like this and prob cheaper than you'd think

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
