22M - Have you ever experienced this in the Tokyo metropolitan area?

yeah the lack of public trash cans is a real adjustment. also the way people will literally sleep on the train and wake up exactly at their stop still freaks me out. i've seen salarymen do it like clockwork on the chuo line, it's some kind of superpower

honestly the sheer density of konbini here still gets me sometimes. like you can be on some random side street in nakano and there's a 7-11 every 200 meters, but try finding a public trash can and you'll walk for 20 minutes. also the way trains just... stop running at midnight is a shock if you're used to 24/7 transit elsewhere. got stuck walking from shibuya to my place in setagaya once, not fun

the way people just... don't make eye contact on the train is wild at first. like you'll be crammed in like sardines on the marunouchi line and everyone's staring at their phone or the ad above the door, total bubble. but then someone drops their wallet and instantly three people are helping pick it up without a word. it's this weird balance of ignoring each other and being super considerate at the same time

Anyone know if they still do the Ethiopia on the hand pour or has it moved to the batch brew? Looking for something bright and fruity without the line at the big chains.

The Ethiopia's usually still on hand pour when I've been in, but it rotates fast so check the board before you queue. If it's gone, Koffee Mameya in Omotesando does a bright Kenyan filter worth the trip.

yeah the board is the thing to watch, and if it's wiped out, Glitch in Jimbocho pulls a solid fruity filter without the chain crowd

Fair point, though I'd add that Mameya's queue moves quicker right at 10am opening before the Omotesando shoppers arrive.

also worth knowing that hand pour there stops around 6pm so an evening run just gets the batch

Try Fuglen Tomigaya for a bright natural. Go weekday mornings.
