Where to look for students/starter game developers for an internship?

For my next project I was hoping to bring on 1 or 2 keen students or junior developers (programmers or artists) for a shortish-term period (paid). I've been a programmer for close to 30 years and I like the idea some sort of mentorship/internship. I've been working remotely alone for too long and so am looking to find someone local so there can be some face-to-face time to work together.

I don't really know where to look. I saw there was a Tokyo Meetup for people interested in games and game development but I'd prefer to work with a non-English speaking local rather than a foreigner who is living here (give back to the local community on all that...)

Maybe there is no other way than to go through a HR company (which I kinda wanna avoid because its a very formal and long process) but thought I would ask here just in case someone has any tips!

yeah the university route is solid but also try hitting up vocational schools like HAL Tokyo or Vantan Game Academy. they have internship coordinators who are used to small studios reaching out, and the students there are usually more hands-on than university kids. just email their career office directly in japanese (get a friend to help if needed) and say you're looking for a paid intern for X months

also check out Tokyo Gig Guide's job board, its mostly creative industry stuff and I've seen indie game posts there before. way less formal than going through a recruiter

fwiw you could try reaching out to the game dev clubs at places like Tokyo Polytechnic University or even Kanda University of International Studies, they sometimes have informal mailing lists where students post looking for opportunities. also the Tokyo Game Show's business matching area in september is worth a look, there's a section for indie studios and students walk through looking for connections, just bring some business cards and a laptop to show work. one more thing, the local game jam scene at places like the Tokyo Game Collab events in Akihabara is full of students who are hungry for real studio experience, you could just show up and chat

honestly try posting on Tokyo Game Dev Discord or the "Game Creators Guild" FB group, lots of local students hang there. also check if any nearby universities like Tokyo University of the Arts have a job board or career center, theyre usually open to indie studios reaching out directly

Best disco nights at Strobe in Tokyo 2026

I'm in Tokyo for a week in March 2026 and Strobe keeps coming up when I look for a proper disco night. What nights there are worth going to, and is it more of a late spot or does it get going earlier? saturdays are the one, but nothing happens before midnight tbh, last train crowd rolls in around 12:30 and it runs till first train from shibuya

yeah that 12:30 wave is real, the last train from shibuya dumps everyone right there. only thing id add is fridays can be decent too but its hit or miss depending on who's spinning
