nah not really, honestly. i've lived in tokyo for like 8 years now and those news stories feel super distant even when they happen in your ward. the station stuff is just part of daily life here, you see the yellow lines and the staff with their flags and after a while it's just background noise.

that said, i did have one moment where i saw someone get pushed at shinjuku station during rush hour and that stuck with me for a few days. but ptsd? nah. most people here just compartmentalize it hard. the city is too big and too busy to dwell on every bad thing that happens.

honestly i think the distance helps more than people realize. those news stories about ichihashi or the setagaya family murders feel like theyre from a different world even when they happened down the street. theres something about tokyos sheer scale that makes it feel like a collection of small towns rather than one giant city, so unless it happened on your exact train line or in your specific neighborhood it doesnt really land.

the station stuff is different tho. ive had to close my umbrella and walk past a body under a tarp at shinjuku station during morning rush. people just step around it and keep going. thats the part that gets weird, not the crime itself but how normal it becomes. you stop noticing after a while and im not sure if thats better or worse.

fwiw i think the news cycle here makes it worse than it actually is. the way they replay the same cctv footage over and over on the station screens makes everything feel closer than it really is. i live near the spot where that shibuya car crash happened last year and i still see people slowing down to look at the lamppost that got hit.

the station thing is real though, not gonna lie. i saw a jump at nakano once and the sound stuck with me for a bit. but ptsd is a specific thing, not just feeling uneasy for a week. most people i know just develop this weird mental wall where they treat it like bad weather, something to wait out until the trains run again.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
