The location of EF Tokyo near Shibuya can be a bit of a double-edged sword, it's convenient for getting around but the area is also pretty expensive, you'll pay around 2000 yen for a meal at a decent restaurant, accommodation prices are also high, with a shared room in a guesthouse costing around 80,000 yen per month. The school does offer some help with finding accommodation, but you might want to consider staying in a different area like Kichijoji or Nakano, they're a bit further out but the rent is lower and the atmosphere is still lively. If you're set on staying near Shibuya, you could look into the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's housing service, they have some affordable options available.

I've known a few people who went through EF Tokyo and the feedback is mixed. The main issue is that for what they charge, you could get more hours and better instruction at a place like YMCA or Shinjuku Japanese Language Institute. EF does have a nice building near Shibuya and the social atmosphere is good if you're young and want to meet other foreigners, but the actual language progression tends to be slow. If you have the budget and want a more structured "study abroad experience" with activities built in, it works, but if you're serious about learning Japanese quickly, you'd get more bang for your yen elsewhere.

fwiw u should prob consider what kind of lifestyle u want in tokyo, ef tokyo is pretty geared towards young travelers, so if u are looking for something more low key u might want to look into a language school in a neighborhood like kichijoji, it's got a pretty chill vibe and is still pretty close to shibuya, plus it's easier to find a decent apartment for around 50,000 yen per month

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
