It must've been 3AM when this drunk Japanese girl comes and says Hi. We welcomed her and started to have friendly conversations with her although her English wasn't very good.

She was with another group, I believe they were all coworkers but ended up leaving her with us. We all thought that was strange I mean who leaves without her friend. She then asks us if she can stay with us at our hotel.

We were all put on this awkward position. Honestly we didn't know how to say "No" We were 3 couples so it be strange to have a stranger in our rooms. We did decline after and even offer to pay for a taxi for her but she insisted in staying with us!

We ended up just leaving her in the bar. We all felt bad but just got me thinking is this something that happens often? Is it part of the culture?

Edit: I forgot to mention. I still have her IG pretty normal gal so it doesn't seem like it was a scam. But pretty weird considering we all had our partners with us.

honestly this isnt super common but it does happen. theres a thing in japanese drinking culture where people get way too friendly after a few drinks and lose their normal boundaries. ive seen drunk locals latch onto random groups at places like deathmatch in hell or the hub in roppongi, usually its just loneliness or wanting to practice english.

the coworker thing is weird but not unheard of. sometimes japanese work groups will ditch a drunk person they dont want to deal with, especially if they think the person is being a burden. leaving her at the bar was the right call though, you did the responsible thing by offering a taxi. her having a normal IG doesnt mean much, drunk people do random stuff all the time here.

yeah this is one of those things that happens more than youd think, especially in shinjuku or roppongi late night. theres a specific pattern where someone gets left behind by their group because theyre too drunk or being annoying and the coworkers just bail. not saying its good but ive seen it at places like the pink cow or some of those tiny standing bars in golden gai.

the asking to crash at your hotel thing is just drunk logic. she prob thought you guys seemed nice and safe compared to wandering alone at 3am. you handled it fine, offering a taxi was the move. next time maybe just flag down a staff member if it feels sketchy, some bars have regulars who can help get a drunk person home.

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
