Where to donate old Business Suits ?

I've accumulated number over the years which I no longer need. Are there any Central Tokyo based charities that's take them, or is it best to just dump the lot ? fwiw the Hikarigaoka Ward Office has a suit collection program but it's only on the 2nd saturday of the month, you gotta drop them off between 10am and 3pm. they pass them to a local nonprofit that trains homeless guys for job interviews, which is a bit more direct than just recycling. also check the "Mottainai" flea market at the Tokyo Tower base, they take donated clothes including suits for their monthly sale on the first sunday. just make sure they're on hangers, not folded

I'd actually look into the "Kuruma ni Notta Omise" service if you're near Ginza. Some of the larger department stores like Mitsukoshi have a takeback program where they'll accept suits regardless of condition and recycle them into insulation or new fabrics. Just ask at the customer service counter on the basement floor. If you're in Shinjuku, the Takashimaya Times Square has a similar setup on their 8th floor near the recycling corner.

honestly you can drop them off at the Second Harvest Japan office near Tsukiji, they take clean suits for their clothing drives. but tbh most charities here are picky about condition, so if they're even slightly worn or dated they'll prob just throw them out. the most reliable option is the "Suit for Smile" boxes at some Mitsukoshi and Isetan locations, they recycle them into new materials and it's free. if you're really in a hurry just bag em up and leave them next to the designated collection bins in your ward's resource recovery center, but check the schedule first cause some only do it once a month

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
