Place to eat koikoku in Tokyo?
Koikoku is pretty niche even by Tokyo standards, but you can find it at a few spots in Shinjuku and Shibuya. Try "Motsuyaki no Ganso" near Shinjuku's west exit, they do a solid pork and miso version for around 800 yen. It's a small standing bar style place so expect a quick meal rather than a sit-down dinner.
if ur not tied to the classic version, there's a spot in ueno called "izakaya ten" that does a spicy miso koikoku with tofu - totally different vibe but still hits the craving
the one in shinjuku mentioned above is the classic spot, ngl the broth is super rich there. could also ask at a random izakaya in golden gai if theyre annoyed enough they might make u something custom but thats a stretch

The stretch toward the shrine is where I've heard owls most, so that's your best bet after 9. Tanuki tend to rustle around the hedges near the west tennis courts, though they bolt if you're loud.
Yep, shrine path's right, though the owls sit higher up near the big camphor tree past the second torii, so look up not straight ahead.
Agree on the shrine stretch, though after 9 the owls usually sit in teh tall cedar just before the last lantern, not the camphor. West courts tanuki are out most nights around 10, near the fence gap by the bike racks.
