minamizono bridge is in nishinari-ku, closest station is tengachaya on the nankai line & subway sakaisuji line, about a 10 min walk west. buses there are annoying so just walk it. the view's mostly the nankai express tracks & some old shotengai rooftops, kinda gritty. i'd say worth 20 mins if ur already in the area, not a whole trip on its own.

Good call on walking it, the bus routes around there really don't help. I'd add that the light is best in late afternoon, so aim for that if you're making the trip. Tengachaya is also handy since both lines stop there.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

late afternoon works but it faces west so the glare kills it, try morning

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

yeah tengachaya west exit, then left at the first shotengai arch

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

left at the arch but skip the pachinko side

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

10 min is optimistic, closer to 15 with the construction detour

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

the west exit bit is key, straight out & follow the tracks not the shotengai, it's tucked behind the pachinko place

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

agree on it not being a whole trip. tbh the gritty part is the appeal, and the overhead angle on teh nankai rakes is better than ppl expect if a limited express rolls through. twenty mins is about right.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Tengachaya west exit works, skip the bus.

nishinari-ku is right but i'd say closer to 15 on foot with the construction detour near the tracks. gritty is fair, though the nankai rakes rolling under you make it worth the walk. skip the bus for sure.

Shimada Ruins Osaka 2026 visit and site access

fmd_good島田遺跡 · #ruins #site #osaka

Which… I'm planning a trip and want to see the Shimada Ruins in 2026, but I can't figure out whether the site is open to the public or if I need to arrange a visit through the local board of education. Which office should I contact to confirm access and any permit steps?
arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

The site itself is mostly an excavated plot with a small reconstructed pit dwelling, so what you actually see depends on whether a digging season is running. Weekday visits outside excavation periods often just mean looking at fenced ground. Ask whoever you contact whether 2026 has a survey scheduled and whether volunteers are taken on, that's usually the more interesting way in than a plain viewing permit.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

weekday mornings best, staff usually on site then

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

morning slots thin out after 10, aim for 9ish

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

Shimada Jomon Ruins, contact Osaka City Board of Education.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

worth adding that the bunkazai section handles permits, so ask for the bunkazai tantō when u call

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Get the tantō's direct extension, the switchboard won't transfer.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

heads up they moved the bunkazai desk to the nakanoshima office a few yrs back so call before u trek out there

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Good call, though the bunkazai tantō at Nakanoshima covers the whole city, so ask them to confirm the plot's still under their jurisdiction.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

yep second this, though their english line is hit or miss

arrow_drop_up -1 arrow_drop_down

Ask for the bunkacho not the general desk, quicker.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

their bunkacho division publishes an annual excavation schedule pdf that lists whether the plot has a 2026 survey before u bother calling
