How do I visit the Kamitsushima camphor tree in 2026?
Kamitsushima is in Nara, not Osaka, so plan a day trip via Kintetsu to Yoshino and check access before 2026 since trails close seasonally.
Second this, book the shuttle from Yoshino Station in advance.
good shout, but fwiw the trailhead bus from the ropeway only runs weekends in season so check the Dorogawa kotsu timetable too
Fair point, but access usually starts from Tenkawa village office side, and you'll want to ring them first since the forestry road gate hours change yearly.
Worth adding that gate hours get posted at the Tenkawa village office website too, so u can check before ringing.
Kintetsu limited express from Osaka-Abenobashi to Shimoichi-guchi then a bus gets you closer than the Yoshino line does.
Best base is Totsukawa, not Yoshino. Long drive though.
The tree sits near Tamaki Shrine, and the winding mountain road up there is often closed in winter, so aim for late spring or autumn.
yeah winter closures are real, but check the omine okugake trail rules too since that whole area is a shugendo site with its own access restrictions
Late spring is right for another reason: the cedar pollen up there peaks in March and early April, so May is much pleasanter. Do check whether your rental car is allowed on the forestry road, some companies exclude it.
Is the Minamizono pedestrian bridge worth a detour in 2026?
Honestly it's a five minute photo stop, not a detour, and late afternoon light from the west is when teh bridge looks best.
Golden hour, roughly 4:30pm in March.
agreed, Nakanoshima skyline frames it from the east side
Yeah, weekday mornings are quieter if you want it empty.
decent spot for a quick phone pic around 5ish
One thing people miss is the elevated walkway connects straight to the river terrace, so you can walk on toward Tenmabashi instead of backtracking.
true about the west light, but the bridge faces the Oebashi canal so you get reflections doubling the shot after rain. bring a wider lens than you think, the span is longer than it looks in photos.
five min is about right but dont box urself in on the west light. the osaka amenity park side gives u a cleaner angle in the morning if u want it empty, ngl i'd pair it with a coffee stop rather than treating it as the destination
Fair call on the five minutes, though I'd go earlier in the day if you want the canal side without crowds blocking the shot.
It's a bridge, not a sight, so skip the detour unless you're already walking the Yodo riverbank.
