Getting to the Kusu tree in Kotsujima, Osaka?
Pair it with the Kusu tree at Kusu Shrine in Kishiwada instead if you want a half day, the Nankai line gets you there without any ferry planning. The island one is really just a photo stop once you've done the crossing.
Kishiwada's tree sits right by the castle so you get the keep and danjiri museum in the same wander
fair point on the ferry faff. worth noting the island tree is a meoto kusu, two trunks fused, so it's more of a shrine visit than a lone big tree. honestly i'd still do it once if you're already out that way.
meoto kusu part is the draw tbh, not the size
got there via sannomiya rather than crossing from kobe proper, the port side is a short bus hop & saves you doubling back
Ferry runs weekends only, so weekday fails
The Kotsujima tree is a quick 15 minute stop, not half a day, and honestly the ferry timing from Kobe is the bigger hassle than the train from Umeda.
Agree, but check ferry days first, some run weekends only
yeah the ferry is the real bottleneck, the crossing itself eats more time than people expect. also worth knowing some sailings get cancelled in winter if the weathers rough, so build in some slack
Port liner plus a bus, adds an hour each way.
Is the Minamizono pedestrian bridge worth a detour in 2026?
Honestly it's a five minute photo stop, not a detour, and late afternoon light from the west is when teh bridge looks best.
Golden hour, roughly 4:30pm in March.
agreed, Nakanoshima skyline frames it from the east side
Yeah, weekday mornings are quieter if you want it empty.
decent spot for a quick phone pic around 5ish
One thing people miss is the elevated walkway connects straight to the river terrace, so you can walk on toward Tenmabashi instead of backtracking.
true about the west light, but the bridge faces the Oebashi canal so you get reflections doubling the shot after rain. bring a wider lens than you think, the span is longer than it looks in photos.
five min is about right but dont box urself in on the west light. the osaka amenity park side gives u a cleaner angle in the morning if u want it empty, ngl i'd pair it with a coffee stop rather than treating it as the destination
Fair call on the five minutes, though I'd go earlier in the day if you want the canal side without crowds blocking the shot.
It's a bridge, not a sight, so skip the detour unless you're already walking the Yodo riverbank.
